Supporting Midwives

Midwifery is a challenging field to be in and ensuring you feel supported is an important element to being the best midwife you can be. Accessing counselling/support from your employer can feel difficult and may cause a barrier to feeling comfortable to open up. Seeking therapy independent to your employer allows you to be in control and make decisions that work best for you e.g. times of sessions, number of sessions, therapist to work with etc.

Although midwifery can be a hugely rewarding vocation, it doesn't come without it's challenges. You may already be feeling burn out from working on a under-staffed ward and feeling like your not able to be the midwife you hoped you would be.

You may be struggling working in an environment that wasn't what you had envisioned and are wondering where you fit it. You may be feeling like you are not able to work in alignment with your values, hospital red tape and policies make it hard for you to offer the care you had dreamed of and this is affecting your sense of fulfilment from your work.

You could be experiencing compassion fatigue from burn out and stress and are looking for ways to recover.

You could have experienced a traumatic birth or patient loss and are struggling to process and need some support to come to terms with the experience.

Seeking counselling is an excellent form of self-care to ensure you can continue to offer the valuable services you do.
